AFRICA'S IMPACT ON THE WORLD ECONOMY

  • Africa’s population is expected to reach around 2.3 billion by 2050, of which 830 Million will be young people.
  • With a Median age of 19.5, 100% of the world’s net workforce growth is expected to be created in Africa this century as it becomes the global most competitive labor force
  • 6 out of 10 fastest growing economies are in Africa, and over one billion consumers.
  • Fastest growing digital consumer markets, with some countries experiencing over 100% mobile penetration.
  • Africa continent contains much of the world’s natural resources essential for global competitiveness such as oil, minerals, rare and precious metals (including ⅓ of the world’s rare earth metal reserves), wood products and fishing.
  • Africa is home to 60% of the world’s most fertile land making it prime for the world’s food basket.
  • A greater connection between the U.S. and African private sectors will expand markets for U.S. goods and services and contribute to more self-reliant, prosperous, and stable African countries.

AFRICAN AMERICAN TRILLION DOLLAR ECONOMIC IMPACT

  • While African Americans make up just 14% of the population, we are responsible for some $1.2 trillion in purchases annually.
  • Nielsen’s research shows that 38% of African Americans between the ages of 18 and 34 and 41% of those aged 35 or older expect the brands they buy to support social causes, outpacing the total population by 4% and 15%, respectively
  • “With 43% of the 75 million Millennials in the U.S. identifying as African American, Hispanic or Asian, if a brand doesn’t have a multicultural strategy, it doesn’t have a growth strategy,”
  • The Black population grew 64% faster than the rest of the country since 2010, amassing a total of 43 million people; this includes individuals who are Black and another race.
  • No group watches more television than African-Americans (37% more) who lean heavily toward programming that includes diverse characters and casts. Black women watch more television than their male counterparts.
  • The reverse migration continues as younger, college-educated Black professionals head South. Businesses have an opportunity to develop a “southern strategy” to connect with the more than 10 million African-Americans in 10 key southern markets

Ubuntu (Humanity): umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu (Zulu community, South African term meaning Humanity towards others)

“I am because we are or Humanity towards others: I am what I am because of who we all are”

The Philosophy of Ununtu is the essence of being human. No Human Being can exist in Isolation, we are all interconnected. Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that you can’t exist as a human being in isolation. It speaks about our interconnectedness.
