Implementation of Program

  • Mobilize People of African Descent and popularize the AU6RUSA African Diaspora initiative Network to organize ourselves and establish appropriate mechanisms that will enable our increasing participation in the affairs of the African Union as observers and eventually, as a sixth region of the Continent that contribute substantially to the implementation of policies and programs
  • Work with AU-CIDO to strengthen the participation of the AU6RUSA Diaspora population in the affairs of the African Union to enhance its contributions towards the development and integration agenda of the Continent
  • Promote positive images of African Diaspora and Africa that will create a conducive environment for investment opportunities on the Continent;
  • Explore various innovative and practical sources of funding for the AU6RUSA Programs to ensure its sustainability.
  • Encourage and support the development of an AU6RUSA Diaspora database and Volunteer program as a framework for associating the Diaspora members directly with the development of the Continent
  • Set up a Diaspora Advisory Board, which will address overarching issues of concern to African Diaspora such as reparations, right to return, amongst others;
  • Encourage and support the adoption and implementation of policies that will facilitate the elimination of racism and the promotion of equality among races.
  • Integrate the AU6RUSA African Diaspora agenda in its engagement with international partners
  • Explore the possibility of establishing an AU6RUSA Secretariat in America
  • Support efforts by the AU to accelerate the process of issuing the African Union passport to facilitate the development of a transnational and transcontinental identity;
  • Create a conducive environment for the African Diaspora to invest, work, and travel on the African Continent and the Caribbean;
  • Work with AU-CIDO to host rotational Diaspora Conference in America and in Africa to review the implementation of the Program of Action

 

  • Mobilization of Support and Partnership: Encourage the AU6RUSA Network, members, and member organizations in America to support, advocate and mobilize resources for the development of African Diaspora in America and Africa;
  • Enhance partnership between the AU6RUSA Network African Diaspora private sectors through efforts such as regular meetings of Chambers of Commerce and listing in African Stock Exchanges and vice-versa.
  • Build on the AU6RUSA Network Diaspora’s and Africa’s comparative advantages in culture to translate them into economic gains through collaborative programs that would facilitate the strategic development and marketing of their cultural goods and services.
  • Promote establishing a comprehensive and all-inclusive database that will match the expertise of African Diaspora professionals in America and Africa to African developmental needs.
  • Develop a reliable statistic on employment and entrepreneurship of African Diaspora in America, with special focus on the Youth
  • Foster Increased Economic Partnership
  • Develop effective regional integration mechanisms that would enhance closer interaction between the AU6RUSA Network and African Union;
  • Take concrete measures that would promote and sustain linkages between AU6RUSA Network and the AU in the following priority areas: trade and investment, science and technology, travel and tourism, communication and transportation infrastructure, energy, information and communication technology and cultural industries;
  • Create an environment conducive for the growth and development of Small, Medium, and Micro-Enterprise and promote entrepreneurship in America and Africa;
  • Create a Diaspora Advisory Board to promote the utilization of African Diaspora expertise on economic development issues
  • Promote trade and investment opportunities linked to indigenous knowledge
    • systems, while ensuring that the related intellectual property rights are secured for the benefit of African Diaspora;
  • Adopt and promote the ‘Development Market Place for the African Diaspora
    • Model’ (DMADA) as a framework for innovation and entrepreneurship that
    • would facilitate development.
  • Mobilization of Capital
  • Facilitate the mobilization of capital that would strengthen links between AU6RUSA Network, it’s Diaspora, and Africa and the Diaspora;
  • Create African Diaspora Investment Fund to address development challenges confronting AU6RUSA Network Diaspora and Africa.
  • Knowledge and Education: Capacity-Building of Member Associations:
  • Enhance the development impact of American-based African diaspora organizations by enhancing collaboration and support to maximize their work’s developmental outcomes. The AU6RUSANetwork will
  • Run a regular series of targeted capacity-building workshops that will share professional expertise and experiences and best practices from migration and development policy and practice.
  • Support the creation of linkages between Diaspora Academic, Research and
    • Development Institutions and those in Africa;
  • Ensure the participation of AU6RUSANetwork Diaspora Experts in the development and implementation of AU6RUSA Network and AU-Diaspora initiative.
  • Arts and Culture
  • Promote the coordination and funding of cultural exchange programs between AU6RUSANetwork Diaspora and Africa
  • Further encourage and disseminate information to all Member Organizations on
    • African-Diaspora projects which are being implemented
  • Support, encourage, and promote the celebration of global observance days
    • as symbols of solidarity for the commemoration of the common heritage and
    • the vision of Africa and its Diaspora, to strengthen Pan-African unity
    • and identity, in particular, Africa Day, African Union Day, Black History
    • Month and Emancipation Day;
  • Media and Image Building
  • Coordinate efforts of the existing media and promote new media to re-brand
    • and to counter stereotypes about Africans and people of African descent;
  • Explore possibilities of creating AU6RUSANews Network Service to enhance
    • image branding and imaging of Africa;
  • Promote initiatives that aim to enhance good governance and the rule of law to strengthen a positive image of people of African Descent among the African Diaspora and the international community at large.
  • Social and Cultural Issues
    • Promote sports and sports exchange between the AU6RUSANetwork, Member Organizations, and Africa.
  • Human and People’s Rights
  • Establish measures aimed at eradicating child trafficking, human trafficking, child labor, exploitation of children and women, and other modern forms of slavery
  • Address the political and socio-economic marginalization of Diaspora communities in America
  • Organization of African Diaspora, Business and Professional Delegations to African Union and the Member States designed to increase visibility on diaspora organizations’ role in development; to explore specific mechanisms for diaspora engagement in different thematic areas; to support, facilitate and accompany business and professional delegations from America to member states of the African Union for investment, entrepreneurship and brain circulation. It will also be a forum to highlight examples of good practice in diaspora engagement and a forum for networking between African diaspora organizations in America and senior policy officials from the Government of America and senior staff from non-governmental organizations in America.
